EuCluster meeting, Gremmelin, Germany

14-March-2004

[ Imported News ]
The first meeting of the Competence Development Group formed at the final meeting of the EUCluster project in Florence last year is meeting in Gremmelin, Germany, this week.

I will be attending the first meeting of the ComDev group in Gut Gremmelin, north-eastern Germany, this week (Wednesday - Friday), representing Knownet and the eCompete project. This meeting seeks to bring together several different European projects with similar aims in the field of competence development through e-learning in SME's in Europe. I will be leading a workshop on Open Source Software as a model for e-learning and aim to present the SIGOSSEE project and website during the meeting - anyone wishing to contribute anything toward this event should either post a topic to this sites forum or e-mail me direct at kel@theknownet.com

It aims to provide balanced and impartical advice to universities and further education colleges on the use of Open Source software. It was agreed at the meeting that there were a considerable number of areas in which the two projects could usefully collaborate.

.Areas for joint work discussed included:

- RSS feeds of content between web sites

- sharing of taxonomies for the respective project software catalogues,

- the possibility of OSS Watch joining in on one of your tri-monthly meetings in either Ireland or Spain.

- the possibility of OSS Watch participating in the next JOIN conference in Köln.

- an invitation for SIGOSEE to participate in the next OSS Watch event directly related to educational open source software.

New design and layout for ossite !

27-March-2004

[ Imported News ]
Regular visitors will notice that the layout and look of the site have changed. We hope you like the new appearance and layout.

We've just spent some work on making the site's layout, look and design more usable and attractive. Please let us know what you think! (Mike apologises for not finding the time to do this a looong time ago :O)

The 'opened padlock' logo candidate is currently occupying the top left corner. We're open to suggestions if anyone feels strongly about other logo ideas.

Plone Mini-Sprint, North Wales

28-March-2004

[ Imported News ]
A three-day programming retreat is planned for the end of May/early June near Bangor, North Wales.

The event will be a 'Mini-Sprint' for members of the Plone (Open-Source, Content Management Framework) community EduPlone, preceding the next SIGOSSEE meeting in Tralee.

It was decided to hold the meet as one of the first tasks of the Standards & Architecture Group at the SIGOSSEE kick-off in Bremen. The event will be held between May 31st and June 2nd in Llanberis, near Bangor, North Wales, at the Electric Mountain visitor centre.

So far, three core members of the EduPlone group have shown interest in the event: Jens Klein (sofar responsible for Learning Sequence implementation, EduPlone-Types), Daniel Nouri (responsible for core components for the typed object relation stuff, Bibliotheca Hertziana requirements), Georg Pleger (standardization, networking). Georg Pleger is a member of the Standards & Architectures Group.

Anyone else interested in attending should email me at kel@theknownet.com
