A lot is going on in Europe.
Since my last brief information a lot is going on in the European parliament. Here are the highlights of the still very controversial process between the European Council and the European parliament. More and more national parliaments positioning against the existing directive from the European Council of 2004 and requesting a restart of the whole process.

1. Vast majority in Legal Affairs Committee of European Parliament demands restart of legislative process on software patent directive. (03 February 2005)

2. The European Parliament's request for the software patent directive to be started from scratch was ratified by senior members of the Parliament on February 18 2005.

The motion has received particularly warm support from MEPs from Poland and other new member states. However, many veteran MEPs also welcome the initiative as a way out of a crisis, into which the Council has plunged the directive project by failing to conduct a proper first reading. Procedural step would also represent "a face-saving exit strategy for the EU Council.
