OS LMS evaluation
JOIN has initially stablished a list with more than 40 OS LMS products, which is being periodically updated and aims to be an exhaustive catalogue of all available open source e-learning platforms.
The evaluation methodology developed by the JOIN team and based on a study from Peter Baumgartner (E-learning Praxishandbuch: Auswahl von Lernplattformen, Innsbruck, 2002) and on ISO/IEC 9126 recommendation, stablishes an initial checking on the system conformance to a 'Minimum LMS functional definition'.
Only those systems that comply to the 'Minimum definition', are installed and analised following a 'List of criteria' which are translated into a ''Evaluation questionnaire' consisting of 120 questions. This questionnaire is answered by the JOIN evaluation team with the help of the product development team.
The information contained in this questionnaire, once completed, is rebuild in a table known as the product 'Technical sheet'. This sheet is complemented by a 'Product sheet' with a more qualitative and informative profile.
The evaluation is open to any kind of comments and opinions from real users and experts. For this purpose, we recommed to use the 'add a comment' tool available at the bottom of each page that allows to insert comments to the information contained in the page. Any added comment, apart from being visible in the page, will be automatically aggregated to the choosen group-weblog (we recommend to use 'OSSITE Community Comments') that can be acessed from OSSITE Community Activities.
Any comment on the methodology and the obtained results is welcomed.
