Evaluation date:
2004/12 |
|
| Functional features |
| Didactics/Learning flow management |
The tutors can create their own skeletons. Feedback
is given through graphics and tables giving the users' scores. |
| Tests and assesment |
There's no tool to create tests within the system,
but tests created with all dedicated tools available can be
imported. |
| Media formats/Authoring |
Courses and contents can't be created from within the
system, but can be imported. Especially, AICC and SCORM modules can
be imported. The categorization of learning object is achieved
through free text keywords. |
| Course monitoring |
A user can enroll in a course if he meets the
prerequisites of that course. Some informations about users
activities are available: hit rates of particular objects, test
results of particular learners, objects accessed by a particular
user. |
| Communication |
Synchronous communication is possible using chat.
Asynchronous communications are handled through an internal mail
system, through standard mail system and through forums. |
| General look and feel of the system |
Users can customize the system layout |
| Permissions handling |
Permissions are handled through ACLs, with an easy to
use group system. |
| Other features |
No other feature |
| Maintainability |
| Quality of technical documentation |
A good developer documentation is available in
English and French |
| Scalability |
The system is widely used in France and is very
reliable |
| Extensibility |
It is possible to extend the system with addons.
Coding standards are documented and respected in the code which is
quite good. A CVS server is available. Bug reports and feature
requests are handled through a specific tool. |
| Adaptability/standard compliance |
The system supports SCORM and AICC imports. |
| Usability |
| User documentation |
All documentations (for users, tutors and
administrators) are of good quality and are available in English and
French |
| Generating content |
Contents and tests can't be created within the system
but they can be uploaded |
| Level of expertise needed |
The system is easy to use and a high level of
expertise is not required: according to us, the only inconvenience is
that it takes some time to view and understand all (and are really
many) the functionalities available in the platform. |
| Other |
Materials to be used in the system can be found among
existing SCORM LO, IMS Courses or whatever docs and files format. The
system is easy to use, customizable and the permission system is
simple to understand. Furthermore, it is compliant with the
accessibility specifications (W3C WAI). |
| Support quality |
| Note |
The core development team offers some support through
forums. Their society (Anemalab) also sells services around Ganesha:
installation, maintenance, hosting, development, trainig... |
| Total cost of ownership |
| Type of users |
Ganesha is mostly used by training organizations or
training departments of companies in France. It is also used by
several schools and universities and in non French
organizations.. |
| Financial stability |
The company Anema Formation decided to create a new
training platform to reply to its own needs and to release under GPL
license. So the software project doesn't have to live standalone,
since its creator doesn't rely on it to work. |
| One time cost |
There are no special hardware needs. The software
requirements are: Apache, MySQL, PHP (the suggested versions are on
the website). |
| Recurring costs |
Periodical activities are the same as for all web
systems: patching the OS or the tools installed. |
