Technical sheet: SpaghettiLearning

In this sheet the results of the evaluation are presented in a table format.
  Technical sheet
Functional features
Didactics/Learning flow management There is no way to implement learning paths and learning plans.
Tests and assesment It's possible to create tests, but no importing facilities are available. Tests can be of single choice and multiple choice type.
Media formats/Authoring Content cannot be created within the system, but documents (in whatever format) can be uploaded. Scorm module are also supported. Users can be created and imported in a cvs format.
Course monitoring Students enroll themselves or the administrator can create and enroll students. The professor can track the students (the access time and the test results), moreover he can see the results and the state of the SCORM Courses.
Communication As synchronous communication chat is available, as asynchronous forums and internal emails are available.
General look and feel of the system The system employs style sheets: it is possible to choose one of the templates available or to develope a new one. It's easy to customize the login page (but the code needs to be modified)
Permissions handling There are 4 roles available (admin, professor, assistant, student) and it's not possible to define new roles. Users can be organized in groups.
Other features At the moment eight languages (French, German, English, Italian, Russian and others) are available.
Maintainability
Quality of technical documentation There's no documentation for developers.
Scalability The system is not built for big environments, we suggest running it on small/medium enterprises (schools, universities, etc). The system can administrate one client (customer) for each installation and is quite reliable.
Extensibility There isn't really very much documentation for developers. The system is not developed with an object-oriented approach and there isn't a plug-in concept, but modules are separated from each other. Taking a look at the code we should have preferred a better carried-out separation between the GUI (html code) and the php code. Users' requirements, bug reports and users' suggestions are handled inside the forum. There isn't a repository available online and at the moment there are 2 available stable versions.
Adaptability/standard compliance The system supports SCORM 1.2 compliance and shows statistics for users or lessons.
Usability
User documentation The documentation for users, teachers and administrators is available in Italian and in English (maybe it should be done in different manuals and in a fuller way).
Generating content The tools for testing are quite easy to use.
Level of expertise needed The whole system is easy to use and for each level of actor (admin, prof, tutor and users) involved in the process, the training period might be really short.
Other The system is easy to navigate and simple to understand.
Support quality
Note It's possible to contact the core team in order to develope neew features and to get assistance and training services by filling in the form. The team offers hosting services and is responsive: it's possible to get an answer in about one day.
Total cost of ownership
Type of users There are installations for each of the categories (the private sector is the biggest) and we estimate a few thousands users all over the world.
Financial stability The core team started to develop in 2002, and we estimate that 5 have been involved in this development for 2 years.
One time cost There are no special HW needs for a new installation, and in order to get a system running less than one day is needed.
Recurring costs There are no special requirements for a system with SpaghettiLearning on it, we might have need to patch or to upgrade the system, and sometimes to reboot the platform.
